James Brewer Memorial Fund

James “Jimmy” Brewer grew up in the suburbs of San Diego, where he showed an early work ethic delivering papers and working in elder care. After a short stint in the military, Jimmy turned towards artistic expression and opened two stained glass shops that reflected his creative spirit.

A devastating accident left Jimmy paralyzed in early adulthood, but rather than turning inward, he became a quiet force for good. Through decades in a wheelchair, he remained fiercely independent, turning his energy toward community service and advocacy. He worked with local nonprofits, dedicating himself to improving the lives of others with disabilities.

But above all, Jimmy believed in the transformative power of education. He often spoke of how crucial it was—not just for his children, but for children everywhere—to have access to quality learning. His personal journey made him especially sensitive to inequities faced by marginalized families and communities. He believed that a child’s future should never be limited by where they were born, their financial circumstances, or the challenges they faced.

This endowment fund, established in his memory, supports educational equity by contributing to K-12 scholarships for 10 students at Prerna Girls School, India. It honors Jimmy’s enduring belief that every child deserves the opportunity to grow, learn, and thrive, regardless of their life's path.
