Host an Event

Behind every school that we support there are wonderful people who do the everyday work of development, sometimes at great personal sacrifices, to ensure that children who lack resources get access to education.  Their stories are inspiring, and what they do move our hearts and the reason why we do what we do at Mona Foundation.   Holding an event for Mona will provide you and your friends an opportunity to hear these inspiring stories and be doubly inspired to become personally involved in this very exciting process of building a better and a more just world for all of our children.

The event can be as small as inviting a few friends to tea, or organizing a bake sale, or a garage sale.  It can also be a breakfast meeting with your colleagues, a luncheon with your community, or even a large dinner.  Several youth have held a car wash, or a service project to benefit one of Mona’s schools.  Other youth have started a “Global Citizen” club in their high schools to focus on learning about Mona and about development, and encourage their friends to do service.  We will help and provide everything you need to make your event and fundraiser a success.  To get you ready, we have prepared a small guide that can help you with organizing an event, click on the link to get the Guide to Hosting an Event.  But don’t hesitate, and just email us at info@monafoundation.org, or call 425.743.4550 and we will help you along every day of the week.

Event Hosting Guide

Philanthropy is not an activity, an after-hours something you do. It is a way of life. It defines who we are and helps us to be the best that we can be.
Join a Giving Circle

Giving circles bring together small groups of highly committed supporters to build a strong community committed to learning about development and philanthropy, our projects and the regions that we support, and help shape plans to enable the Foundation to reach its goals for each region. The purpose of a giving circle is three fold:

  1. To learn about development and alleviating global poverty in community with a group of like-minded individuals.
  2. To connect with a specific project of your choosing more intimately and help it grow
  3. To inform others in your area about Mona and the impact we are making and asking them to join your giving circle

How does it work?

  • You decide that you would like to join an existing giving circle, or form a giving circle and choose a project to support (see details of each project needs on our website, https://www.monafoundation.org/our_projects.)
  • Mona Foundation staff will support your giving circle by providing you with learning resources and by helping develop structure.
  • All participants of a giving circle will meet by phone or in-person three times a year with Mona staff. The Mona team will develop a curriculum divided into three chapters for these meetings.
    • Mona 101: Philosophy, Theory of Change, Lessons from 17 Years of Service
    • Learning about International Development 101
    • Education and engagement with the program you have chosen as your focus
  • Mona Foundation will give the giving circle Leaders priority for site visits to the project of their choosing.

Giving Circles

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

Planned Giving

Planned giving to Mona is a flexible and creative way to make a powerful difference in global education.

Corporate Philanthropy

Many companies believe that their mission is more than their profit and want to give back.

Planned Giving

Planned giving involves providing for a future gift to Mona Foundation through your financial and estate plans. They are called "planned gifts" because planning the timing of the gift and how it is given often results in benefits to the donor as well as to the recipients.  Your gift to Mona Foundation may be designated to benefit a specific project or need. Or, you may choose to support our general, operations or endowment funds.   Options to consider include:

Option 1:  Current Outright Gifts

These gifts include stock, real estate, or other tangible property. Donors are entitled to a charitable tax deducation equal to the asset's fair market value.

Option 2:  Promised Gifts

These gifts, are a promise to give in the future. Because of their revocable nature, some of these gifts are not eligible for a charitable tax deducation during the donor's lifetime. Examples include:

  •  Bequests: A bequest is a statement in a donor’s will that directs assets or a percentage of an estate to Mona Foundation when the donor passes away.
  • Retirement Plans or IRAs: Mona Foundation can be named a beneficiary in a donor's retirement plan or IRA.
  • Life Insurance: Mona Foundation can be a beneficiary of all or a portion of a life insurance policy.

Option 3:  Deferred Gifts

These gifts involve an irrevocable transfer of cash orassets. Because the gift is complete (that is, irrevocable), the donor is entitled to acurrent tax deduction.

Mona Foundation just celebrated its 17th year anniversary. We’ve accomplished a lot and want to do more.

Set up a Fund in Memory of a Loved One

Finding meaning in the loss of a loved one often feels impossible   One way to cope with the loss of a loved one and to honor their life is to create a Memorial Fund in their honor.  A Memorial Fund is a wonderful way to transmute your grief into something positive and at the same time keep your loved one's memory alive.

For some families, honoring a relative who has passed away by creating a Memorial Fund in their name helps to begin the process of coming to terms with a great loss. It keeps the memory of their loved alive while also improving the lives of others.  It's a wonderful way to show your love for the one you have lost and to preserve their legacy.

A Memorial Fund can be designated for specific purposes, for example scholarships for deserving students in any of Mona's projects, or designated to education of women and girls; or building a school where it is needed.   It is a great way of paying tribute to a life well-lived, and to ensure the continuation of their services even after they have passed on.

We share in your giref and happy to help in however way we can to establish a special Memorial Fund as you wish it.   Contact us at 425.743.4550, or email us at monafoundation@monafoundation.org.

Charitable deeds done in memory or honor of a loved one, and on their behalf keep their legacy alive and brings joy and happiness to their hearts and souls in the worlds beyond.
Donate to our Permanent fund

Our goal is to grow the number of projects, countries and children served in our next 15 years. Toward this end, we are launching a five million dollar Permanent Fund Campaign.  Our Permanent Fund Campaign will help us realize the full potential of our mission by achieving four goals:

  1. Transform and build our internal capabilities
  2. Scale our efforts to fund more projects and reach thousands more children and families.
  3. Create a robust program evaluation process to be able to learn from and replicate success.
  4. Remain a fiscally responsible and sustainable enterprise

We’re determined to build Mona Foundation’s institutional capacity to sustain our growth, help more kids and communities, and increase our impact in the coming years. By participating in The Mona Foundation Permanent Fund Campaign, you are helping to provide education to thousands of children for generations to come.

Please join us in this endeavor.  To determine what giving option works for you, please contact us at monafoundation@monafoundation.org, or call 425.743.4550.  We will work with you to find an option that best suits your wishes.
