Our Journey

Since 1999, we’ve been working hard towards one ambitious goal: to alleviate poverty using the key levers of education and gender equality. And while the crisis is huge, we are making progress every day thanks to the help of our local partners and generous supporters like you.

Working together, we believe we will see the day when no child goes to bed hungry, is lost to preventable diseases, or is deprived of the gift of education due to a lack of resources.

Our Founding Story

Mahnaz Aflatooni Javid

The story of Mahnaz is the story of many whose life experience has compelled them to give back. Mahnaz was born to a charitable family in Iran, exposed to extreme poverty as she was growing up, and raised to remember the privilege of birth and geography that shielded her from the misery around her.

She did remember. Shaped by her childhood experience and inspired by Mona Mahmudnizhad, a 16-year girl who was executed in 1983 in Iran because of her beliefs and because she was teaching children classes, Mahnaz founded the Mona Foundation to honor Mona's commitment to principle and continue her unfinished work in promoting education and social justice.

Leading the team

Every member of our board of directors is a thought leader who has made significant contributions to our society.

Each one brings a unique set of skills and expertise to our organization.
