Job Description

The Mona Foundation supports grassroots educational initiatives that provide education to all children, increase opportunities for women and girls, and emphasize service to the community. Our goal is to alleviate global poverty and support community led transformation such that no child ever goes to bed hungry, is lost to preventable diseases, or is deprived of gift of education for lack of resources. Since our inception we have granted more than $12M to 38 grassroots educational initiatives in 18 countries, supporting the education of 258,000 students, teachers and parents annually. We are looking for a full time social media intern to support our online digital communications strategy.  

 

Internships at the Mona Foundation are unpaid, but basic expenses will be covered. Interns will also have a unique opportunity to learn about international social and economic development and effective philanthropy informed by field experience while receiving academic credit for work completed.

 

The Social Media Intern supports and reports to the Social Media Manager in all aspects of coordinating and executing the Foundation's social media strategy, working across key social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn. This role will support goals to increase social media presence to gain visibility for our brand, and online fundraising.

 

Key Responsibilities

  1.  Maintain short and long-term social media/blog calendar, and help ensure that deadlines are met.
  2. Research relevant articles for inclusion on social media and draft potential posts.
  3.  Research, develop, and maintain social hashtag lists.
  4.  Research pathways to build Community on Facebook.
  5. Build all social media channels through sincere engagement.
  6.  Help track and organize social analytics to develop regular reports about online content.
  7. Research potential online channels for content promotion.
  8. Weekly Skype meeting with Social Media Manager.

Preferred Skills:

  1. An interest in marketing, communications, social media or reputation management.
  2. Excellent verbal communications skills.
  3. Familiarity with key social media tools (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.) and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.).
  4. Proven written communication skills and an interest in writing both short and long copy.
  5. Content creation using skills in photo editing, design, and/or video editing, etc.
  6. An entrepreneurial attitude with excellent attention to detail and motivated to learn.
  7. An ability to prioritize work and complete tasks with quick turnaround times.
  8. A proactive, service-focused attitude towards clients, donors, and the teams you support internally.
  9. An ability to remain calm under pressure and a resilient attitude towards challenges.

Travel: Occasional travel (<20%) throughout the United States may be required.
