2007 Scholarship Stories

These are the stories of the students who are receiving scholarships at this time.

Jeffmina Baptiste, age 11, grade 5. Jeffmina belongs to a family of five children, who all live with their Mom and Dad. This is her first year with us. She enjoys the school because the teachers treat her with respect and they work well. Her favorite subject is Math and Social Science. She finds French difficult. She would like to participate in the sewing classes and is interested in becoming a seamstress. She also thinks she'd like to be a nurse. Her Mom sells linen articles and her Dad grows plants to sell. She is a very pretty little girl but also very serious.

Sengeant Johnny, grade 9. Johnny is a youth preparing for his grade 9 departmental exams. His mother is divorced and has one other older child. She works at the school in the kindergarten section.

Shelove Pierre, age 18, grade 9. Shelove is an interesting youth, tall, slight with big eyes and an even bigger smile. He is simple in his manner and gentle in his approach. He enjoys Social Sciences, English and Biology the most. He finds Math difficult. He would like to become a computer technician. When I mentioned that he has matured considerably in the past two years he replied that his friends see that too and they come to him for help in their studies.

Lucine Larrame, grade 7. Lucine lives with her Mom and Dad and her sister. Both parents sell in town so they leave home early morning and arrive late at night. Lucine would like to become a nurse. She works hard at school and is a good student. She expressed confidence in her academic work and also in her singing. She was one of the animators during the school celebration in May and enjoyed that experience very much. She has a pleasant face and a soft voice.

Mickerjy Joseph, age 3, first year of Kindergarten. Mickerjy, a little boy with big eyes and curly black hair would be hard to resist by any parent. He is of sweet character. He likes to write and feels a need to do so, but also likes to play with little cars. His language is well developed and he enjoys singing the songs he learns at school. He lives with his Mom and Dad and is their only child.

Stevenson Noncent, grade 3. This is Stevenson's first year at the school. He appreciates the school because of the way they teach. He is working to have an 8 for his average in June. He lives with his Mom, 3 sisters and 1 brother. His father does not live with them. He is best in Social Science and Math. He finds French grammar to be the most difficult. He would like to go to France so he can become fluent in French, after that he would study to be a Doctor. Stevenson has a lovely open happy face and expressive eyes.

Alexandro Bastien, age 15. He is artistically inclined and likes to draw and to dance.

Katiana Falaise, grade 7. This is Katiana's first year at Anis Zunuzi school. She is happy with the school because she learns a lot, they work well and they have a lot of activities. When she finishes school she would like to get a job but she doesn't yet know what. She is best in French, Math and English. The most difficult for her are Social Sciences and Spanish. Her Mom died when she was born and her father passed away when she was 7 years old. Her older sister takes care of her but she doesn't have work. She would like to participate in the summer camp held at the school but she knows they don't have the money. In spite of Katiana's difficult home situation she is open, speaks well and shows confidence.

Manoutcheka Andre, grade 8. Manoutcheka says she is not able to understand, and even though the teacher explains when she goes home she is not able to do the work on her own. Her parents are not able to help her in this regard. She wants to express her gratitude to those helping her and feels bad for her teachers that she isn't able to get better grades. Her better subjects are English, Biology, French and Spanish. What troubles her most is Math. During the school celebration in May she participated in the presentation on equality of men and women.

Stanley Intelus, age 6, grade 1. Stanley is a friendly little boy who enjoys talking even though his language skills present a challenge. He likes to work and most enjoys drawing, and reading. During the school celebration he sang with his class. When he grows up he would like to be an artist making drawings, singing and writing. Stanley always has questions and indeed his face shows that he is constantly thinking about his next one.

Auguste Yolanda, age 13, grade 5. Yolanda is finishing her second year at Anis Zunuzi. She lives with her uncle, one brother and two sisters. Her Mom lives in the very southern part of Haiti so she goes to see her only during the summer vacation. Her Dad has passed away. She is a tall, happy child looking forward to spending the vacation with her Mom.

Dalestin Marie Denise, age 12, grade 4. Marie Denise came to Anis Zunuzi in January only. Her Mom & Dad live in Cap Haitien, the north of Haiti. She misses them but she has been living with her Aunt & Uncle for 5 years now and is well adapted. She appreciates the teachers because they are kind to her. She expresses herself very well and shows great maturity for her age.

Wedline Louis, age 110, grade 4. This is Wedline's first year at Anis Zunuzi. She likes the school because of the way they teach and she learns well. She has two brothers and one sister at the school but there are 6 children in the family. She would prefer that all her siblings are together at the same school but there is not enough money. She would like to become a doctor but again feels financially she won't be able to so she thinks she will become an esthetician. We discussed keeping her dream but studying the latter to make sufficient money to begin her higher studies at a later date. Both her parents sew to make a living.

Stevencia Vil, age 8, grade 3. Stevencia is a small little girl but friendly and happy to talk. Her best subject is Math. Her desire is to become a teacher. She appreciates the school because the teachers treat them well and tell jokes while they teach. Her parents have three children, but two others died when they were very little. She will spend her vacation in Leogane with her aunt.

Ce Bastien Michel Jn, age 10, grade 3. Ce Bastien spent a good year at school. He is striving to get an 8 average this term. He was able to participate in the school outing to the Canadian Embassy and to an historical museum. He also plans to participate in the summer camp this time around. He wants to say thank you to the person who has helped pay his schooling this year.

Stephanie Joseph, age 8, grade 2. Stephanie had a good school year. She particularly enjoys her English and French classes. She was only too happy to converse for a few seconds in English. Her class sang in the annual school celebration and she recited a poem. She is working to have an 8 average she said in June. She wishes to express her thanks to those that helped pay for her schooling this year.

Paul Anderson, age 13, grade 5. Paul is striving for a 7 average this term. He was not too happy with his average previously. He did best in math and Creole. He enjoys playing football. His favorite team is Argentina. He expects to participate in the summer camp at the school.

Beatrice Francois, grade 5. Beatrice has a big smile and when she says everyone is her friend you can see why. She enjoys all of her professors but her French class is one of her favorites. She lives with her parents and her six siblings. Her father makes wooden articles to sell; her Mom is not employed outside of the home.

Naika Joseph, age 7, grade 1. Naika is a tiny little girl with a soft little voice. She sang in the annual school celebration in May. She was also able to enjoy the school outing in March and what she appreciated the most was that the bus almost flipped over!!! She plans to attend the summer camp at the school.

Ricardo Aurelien, age 8, grade 2. Ricardo is a talkative little boy with a beautiful smile. He has three good friends and he enjoys talking with them and playing ball. His favorite football team is Brazil. His favorite subject is Creole but he also likes English. He was fortunate to participate in the summer camp last year and looks forward to it again this summer.

Lovely Pierre, grade 8. Lovely is working to have a 7 average in June. She has visibly grown and developed during the past year. She looks more relaxed and confident. She expressed the desire to become an agronomist. She enjoyed last year's summer camp and the only change she would recommend is to make it even longer (it's 5 weeks already!). She says thank you to the person helping her and hopes that God will continue to give to them so that they can continue to help her.

Sherline Doriscar, age 19, grade 8. Sherline has 6 siblings among which she is the second oldest. She lives with her Aunt. Her father died 13 years ago and her Mom 6 years later. At that point she spent five years away from school. She appreciates the way the teachers are and the way they work. When she doesn't understand she asks and they help clarify it for her. Her favorite subjects are French and Social Science. She would like to become a doctor in pediatrics but thinks financially she will not be able to afford it so has decided to go to secretarial school. She was not able to attend the summer camp last year but is determined that this summer she will. She is a confident young lady with capacity to persevere.

Donova Paul, age 10. Paul says he had a good school year. He worked well. His class presented a skit for the annual celebration and he was happy to be part of it. He will be attending the summer camp. He wishes to thank the person who helped to make his school year possible. His father, who was sick at the beginning of the year passed away. In spite of this tragedy he has a big smile, seems confident and well adjusted.

Sophonie Toussaint, age 7, third year of Kindergarten. Sophonie is a very pretty little girl with a big smile and expressive eyes. She lives with her Mom. Her father is in Port-au-Prince but she doesn't see him. She enjoys singing, saying prayers and writing. She proudly wrote her name for me as we talked. She will be entering grade one in September.

Emmanuella Louizie, grade 8. This is Emmanuella's first year at school. She hopes to raise her average to 8 in June. She enjoys the school because they show movies, and there are computer classes, moral education and sports. Her favorite subjects are Social Sciences, Biology and Moral Education. When she leaves school she would like to work in a good place, where they help you. Both her parents are living but they are not together. She plans to attend the summer camp.

Nathalie Alexis, age 15, grade 6. Nathalie's parents have both died. She is fortunate to have an older brother with whom she lives. She works well and is well behaved. She is pretty and slight in build. She likes all of her subjects. She has been attending school in the afternoon but next September she will join the morning classes, as she will be in middle school.

Bernado Silvaint, grade 3. Bernado is a lively little boy who has been at Anis Zunuzi since kindergarten. His father has been very cooperative in keeping in touch with the school and assisting with his education.

2006 Scholarship Stories

These are the stories of three students who are receiving scholarships at this time.

Roselourde Cherazard is a slender youth of 15 enjoying her first year at Zunuzi. As a grade 7 student, she excels in Math, and is interested in sewing, computer, Spanish and French. A split family makes circumstances challenging for Roselourde and her three siblings.

Paul Anderson is experiencing new freedom as he passed his first year. As a grade 4 student he enjoys English, sports and computer, which were not a part of his former school. His mother, a widow, has no means of income to support herself and two sons.

Berlus Bewolff is a new 6 year old student in grade 1. Berlus is making new friends and learning relationship skills such as avoidance of fighting. His last average in his studies was very high, showing a successful integration into his new school. Two of his four brothers are also in the school.
