Setsembiso Sebunye Honors & Grants

King of Swaziland Honors
Setsembiso Sebunye

Setsembiso Sebunye High School has been honored by the King of Swaziland as one of the best educational institutions in the country, as stated in a recent Swaziland newspaper article. Not only was the distinction earned by the presence of these unique computer labs, but academically, the curriculum is outstanding, leading to the Oxford exams. Together these and other features have earned the praise currently offered.

57 Computers Are Given to the School

The 57 computers were an all out effort on the part of many people. Our special thanks go to the following individuals: Mrs. Duy-Loan T. Le for contribution of 15 Texas Instrument calculators; Mary & Larry Shannon who allowed us to use their living room to diagnose and test the computers; Britte Kolve who was instrumental in obtaining the 100 Pentium computers from TouchMarketing.com, and spent hours on diagnostic tests of these computers; Kimber Zink, who donated so much of her precious free time to move truckloads of computers from her company in Renton to Mary & Larry Shannon's home in Redmond and tested and diagnosed the computers along with her brother-in-law Stan Herzog & her nephew Scott Herzog; Adam Barrow, a wonderful youth from Canada, who stopped by on his way to a year of service in Haifa, Israel to spend a week here and check all our donated 486s; and Patrece Banks who made a generous contribution of 37 new monitors adaptable to Swaziland's 220/50 Hertz electricity, a Xerox printer, a HP scanner, a wonderful collection of Microsoft® office and educational software, and a ticket for Britte.

2001-2 AIDS Funding Provided

We are thrilled also to share with you that the Mona Foundation Board of Directors has approved initial funding of Youth to Youth HIV AIDS Educational Initiative at Setsembiso Sebunye High School in Swaziland through a $7,000.00 grant. Directed by Mrs. Anne Waite, this forward looking and innovative approach engages the youth of this high school to take the message of AIDS prevention to all the other high schools in Swaziland through indigenous forms of art such as participatory drama and music. We particularly thank Mrs. Patrece Banks for her generous contribution of $2,000.00 towards this grant.
