Education and Community-Building in Mongolia
Investing in the future of Mongolian children and families.
The Mona Foundation has been working with the Mongolian Development Centre (MDC) since 2010, and in that time has seen amazing growth and transformation in the 6 localities MDC serves. MDC works within all levels of a community - from children to adults and has 3 main programs in place: Early Childhood Development, Junior Youth Empowerment, and Community Capacity Development. These programs are 100% locally run, and each one supports and elevates a different subset of the community. In 2011, Mona Foundation gave MDC a grant of $82,560 in total. MDC used the funds to support nearly 5,000 children and hundreds of adults in 6 communities throughout the region. They reported a positive impact in all three programs during 2011.
MDC plans to expand all 3 of its programs during 2012, with the backing of local government officials and Mona Foundation's continued support. Our financial assistance will allow the MDC to offer additional training and materials to parents and teachers in the Early Childhood Development Program. It will also provide for follow-up and in-classroom observation for participating teachers. MDC's big wish is for a new computer at one of their community sites this year.
