This site contains reviews of children's literature by librarians, writers and editors, teachers, and children's literature specialists. The site also has interviews with authors and illustrators. Teachers have access to the more than 3,000 books reviewed annually by this site.

This site contains teaching resources for teaching Shakespeare in elementary school classrooms. It has links to many books that bring Shakespeare to life for young readers.

This site is extremely useful for learners of any age. It offers an easy way to look up any word, check grammar rules and use a thesaurus. It also has a translator that can translate text and web pages quickly. It is a great site for classroom use.

This site, from the University of Georgia is easy to use and read, lets teachers post lesson plans, and has some good links. My favorite part was all the lesson ideas specifically built around books that I love like the "Little House" series and Judith Viorst's Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day.

This site has a huge number of resources, including ways for teachers to use multimedia, and information about teacher-training resources. It also has ideas for children's writing and bringing literacy and reading home.

The International Reading Association's site for teachers, reading specialists, consultants, administrators, librarians, parents, etc. Their five main goals are professional development, advocacy, partnerships, research, and global literacy development. It also has links to research relating to reading, and links to awards and grants available to teachers.

One of the best features of this site is that it shows what kinds of free information and lessons corporations will send to teachers-they seem adaptable so as not to be too heavily advertising certain products. It also has lesson plans, links to other ed. sites, and information about many areas in addition to literacy.

Children's Book Council sponsors this site that offers materials and ideas to encourage reading and writing. It also has lists of new books, features with some of the authors, and book reviews done by the publishers-so of course the reviews are positive, but they are useful in giving teachers an idea of what kinds of literature are out there.

British Poetry 1780-1910: Hypertext Archive of Scholarly Editions at the Electronic Text Center Alderman Library, University of Virginia. This is a good website for classic literature as ebooks. It has British literature, but it also has a link at the bottom of the page for a Modern English Collection. Some of the authors are John Keats, Oscar Wilde, Emily Dickinson, and Walt Whitman. Illustrations and every page of the books including the front and back covers are downloaded.

It also integrates other subject areas such as Math and History with the language arts. Featured books give related activities, books and websites. The book reviews include grade levels.

Lists of websites are gathered from schools, libraries and commercial enterprises and are then categorized for use. Links include authors and stories on the web, and resources for teachers and parents. Book awards lists are linked, as well. It is maintained by the University of Calgary.

Houghton Mifflin Education Place. The toolbar on the right has invitations to literacy links for extension activities for books the class must already have. They are only referred to on the site. One of these links is in Spanish. It also has links for practicing parts of speech, vocabulary, and spelling activities, but the spelling activities must be printed for use. Has a bilingual link that lists books written in English and Spanish categorized by grade first, and then by level of difficulty. Users can also build their own stories and learn the parts of speech.

BBC Online: BBC Education. This is a TV and radio station in the United Kingdom. Is a good site for emergent to beginning literacy kids ages 5-7. Has links that use the media player Shockwave (a free download) for animated games for word shape recognition, as an example. Definitely will keep the interest of young readers!

Otherwise this site is mainly for social studies, which involves a lot of reading. There are activities designed with the lesson plans.
