PROFILES OF CORPORATE RESPONSIBILITY

What is corporate Responsibility

Corporate responsibility stems from the conviction that companies are part of a broader ecosystem that can contribute to creating societal value. Some programs are built around environmental issues. Some give to charitable causes. Some strive to integrate societal issues at the core of company strategy and operations. Whatever the approach, the fact remains that companies are learning that their mission transcends simply making a profit. To be sustainable, they must play an important and critical role in building a better world.

Profiles of Corporate Responsibility

Mona Foundation has been fortunate to receive support from outstanding companies that believe giving is the right thing to do and that it’s also good for business. Here are examples of some who’ve made continuing commitments:

Reply! is an e-commerce company featured in media such as the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, Red Herring, and CNN Money. CEO Payam Zamani originally came to the US as a refugee with virtually nothing but the clothes on his back. His struggle to rise above difficult circumstances has given him deep empathy for the suffering of others. He and his wife, Gouya, personally visit projects around the world to understand their needs and how best to help. Reply! gives 1% of its monthly profits to educate girls in the developing world. Payam speaks at conferences and encourages other like-minded companies to consider doing the same.
Dr. Egrari maintains an impressive roster of credentials. He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and the American Board of Surgery. Following his residency in Los Angeles, Dr. Egrari completed a coveted fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery. Throughout his academic career Dr. Egrari has written extensively about a variety of diverse surgical issues and has presented his work internationally. A dedicated husband and father of three, Dr. Egrari supports Seattle arts and culture as a valued patron. He also finds time to serve on the Mona Foundation Board of Advisors. Dr. Egrari believes strongly in Mona Foundation’s mission and since 2005 has supported the operational work of Mona Foundation allowing us to grow and focus on serving our partner projects.
Jaguar Land Rover Bellevue is a four star car dealership in Bellevue, WA. They strive to provide an excellent customer experience and to give back to the community. Jaguar Land Rover Bellevue supports many worthy causes like Mary Bridge's Children's Hospital. They have been supporting Mona Foundation since 2008 and because of their generosity Mona Foundation moved into it's first official office space in the summer of 2010. This donated space allows Mona Foundation to increase the efficiency of our operations which means we can focus on serving more children.
Baha’i Ringstone creates beautifully designed jewelry. The co-founders, Oscar Valencia and Koorosh Daneshgar have both been fine jewelry makers since they were apprentices in their mid-teens. They insist that perfection comes first in everything they do and that is evident in their business philosophy where giving to those in need has a clear role. Since 2006 they have been supporting the Anis Zunuzi School and since 2008 the Anis Zunuzi Annex (home and school for street children) in Haiti. Their dedication to giving back has made a tremendous difference for so many children in Haiti.
Caspio is a cloud computing company that helps businesses create databases, web applications, and mobile apps that don't require any coding or IT resources. Headquartered in Mountain View, CA, Caspio is an unconventional Silicon Valley company in that it has been bootstrapped and self-funded since it was founded in 2000. As a result, the company’s goals are driven by passion and community values, not by finances or an investor's "exit strategy". In a recent partnership with Mona Foundation, they sponsored the ADCAM School in Brazil, with the goal of raising $5,000 to send 50 children to school in 2012. Caspio’s other fund-raising efforts have included employee contributions, company matching grants, and fund-raising events.
INVITATION TO JOIN US

“Culture change” is an oft-repeated theme from companies whose management has embraced social responsibility and discovers enormous interest and desire on the part of their employees to be involved.

In the words of Sam Veazey, CFO Reply!, "Payam, our CEO, has shown outstanding enthusiasm and passion for addressing the education of girls globally both personally and as head of Reply!. The same innovation, energy and leadership required for a successful business was directly applied to the company’s charitable goals. His passion led to a “change of culture” as many employees got involved and it’s become part of the company’s core business values.

Throughout the years the Reply! team enjoyed  Payam’s spirited challenges to match employee contributions to several initiatives including donations of one day’s pay for Haiti’s earthquake relief.  Payam also championed the approval by Reply!’s board of directors to donate 1% of profits on a monthly basis to fund girl’s education in third world countries.  His clear direction and tone from the top has encouraged Reply! employees to encompass the full spectrum of what it means to be a good corporate citizen.”

Many companies, large and small, are making the decision to be involved in the ever-growing community of organizations, institutions and individuals that seek to work together to learn how to create a better world. We invite your participation!
