ADCAM Scholarships

Women of Awareness Scholarship

“Women of Awareness”, a group of very influential women in Bellevue, WA area, is comprised of women who are very socially conscious and who really want to better understand and contribute to the development of their communities. At their meeting Rita Egrari shared stories of ADCAM, Ngabe, service learning, and how every one of us can make a difference. They presented us with a $500 check which will provide a scholarship in their name, “Women of Awareness Scholarship” specifically for ADCAM. We have sent a description of the student they will be supporting.

Adib Bam Scholarship

Last year a wonderful family who lost their 7 year old son in a house fire established a scholarship in his name, the ADIB BAM scholarship. This wonderful family has now designated both ADCAM and Ruaha as the recipients of two scholarships each for two children for the duration of their schooling through high school graduation. What a wonderful gesture to make in their son's name!

2004 $10,000 Scholarships

Ferial Sami, who with her husband established the pre-school that led to what ADCAM is today, recently came to the Los Angeles area. She met with about 100 women at a luncheon reception, arranged by Sima Mobini and Diane Samandi, to share the ADCAM story. The story of how an orphanage grew into a K-12 school, a teacher training college, and a 4-year Technology Institute touches the heart. Upon hearing the story, several women, with tears in their eyes, offered full year scholarships for the students. Very soon after this event, contributions began to stream in. The amount rose to $10,000 for scholarships for the ADCAM students.

Scholarship Student Comments

Many students have been served by all of these scholarships. Here are pictures and statements from several of them.

Francisca Erilene Batista, 6th series of Basic Education
"This scholarship is, for me, and for all the scholarship recipents, of the greatest importance. It helps me study without worrying where we will get the money to pay, since my family is poor and doesn't have the conditions to pay for a good school like this one. I am thankful for the opportunity to grow and because I feel happy, like I have found a second home."

Jacqueline Carvalho de Souza, 1st series of Basic Education
"I am very happy to receive this scholarship. This is very important to me because my parents are not able to pay my tuition. At every moment I am thankful for the privilege of studying in this school I like so much.

Andreza de Luz Gama, 2nd year of High School
"The value of the scholarship is indispensable because aside from helping us, it is preparing us for a greater future, by providing a quality education and making possible an entrance into various professions. I can never let the harsh realities of life keep me from pursuing my ideals and objectives. For this I thank all those who helped me with a scholarship and brought me closer to the realization of my dreams."

Ma. Creuza Pereira do Nascimento, Pedagogy, 3rd Period
"Today I am twenty-five years old, and it is only now that I have secured an opportunity to attend college. I know for certain that without this help, I would not have the opportunity to graduate because my financial situation is poor and does not permit me to pay for college education. In my family there are fifteen children, and I am the only one who made it to college, for which I will be grateful the rest of my life. I know that by reaching this higher level, it will give me a life that is better than what my family has had thus far and that I will be a woman who succeeds, because in spite of all my difficulties, God has put in my path generous people."

Ana Lúcia Marinho Carvalho, Pedagogy, 1st Period
"For me, the importance of the scholarship is that it was a realization of my dream to graduate from college. Without the help of this Institution, it wouldn't be possible because my salary is not sufficient to pay the tuition and expenses, and I am presently the principal one responsible for the income of my family. This course in pedagogy has given me a new vision— the necessity to grow personally and professionally until a transformation occurs in me and in my way of life. I want this and it's certain I will apply all my strength to finish the course. But I don't want to stop there. I want to specialize, get a master's degree and be excellent at what I do, always looking for new opportunities to grow and improve myself as a human being."

Ana Cristina Marinho Carvalho, Pedagogy, 3rd Period
"First, I would like to thank you for the opportunity you have given me. For me, it's synonymous with transformation. I believe that through a quality education, not just material but spiritual, that we can make this a more just and humane world. I know that through my studies I will be able to contribute a great deal. Whatever is within my ability that I can do to help the next person, I want to do. Just as you are making a difference in our lives, I want to be able to help others, and I believe the most important thing in life is to serve. In my opinion, education is one of the greatest acts of service that we can offer to humanity."

Claudemberg Lima dos Santos, Middle School, 1st year
"This school is great because it has high quality standards and that is what we need. The scholarship is of critical importance to me because through it, I am achieving a good education, wonderful learning and a better future. I thank primarily the teachers in the school and secondly, the directors and also the staff who work directly or indirectly with us. I also want to thank the people who provide us with scholarships because without them we wouldn't be here. My biggest dream is to be a teacher and teach others what I have learned from my professors."

Bruna Karoline P. Marinho, 6th series of Basic Education
"I feel very happy for the opportunity to study in a school as good as this one. I thank everyone for the opportunoity they have given me and every day I thank God for this blessing, because it is a privilege to study here. My biggest dream is to be a dancer and to give dance classes."

Amanda da Luz Gama, 7th series of Basic Education
"The school and my studies are very important to me, and to all the scholarship students, because this allows us to study without worrying where we will get the money to pay for our education. My family is very poor and doesn't have the ability to pay for a good school. I am thankful for the opportunity to grow and also for being so happy and having found here a second home. I am grateful for the people who have contributed so much that we might have a better future."

Keven Santa Lopes, 1st series of Basic Education
Kevin lives with his mother, who works as an assistant teacher. He is an intelligent child. He participates in the classroom, helps the other students when they need it, and is very helpful. He loves to go to the park, to hear stories. He is very curious and affectionate with his classmates. When he grows up, he wants to be a doctor.

Valeria da Silva Sobrinho, 2nd series of Basic Education
Valeria lives with her parents. Her father works selling plant cuttings and her mother works as a helper in the ADCAM project. Her family is very poor. There are eight people in the household and they have been experiencing many difficulties. Valeria's greatest dream is to be a teacher.

Carol Santana Lopes, 6th series of Basic Education
"I thank God for the opportunity to study here. This is the most beautiful school I've ever seen in my life. The school is wonderful, comfortable and looks like paradise. I thank God and the people who built this place, the director and all the staff of ADCAM that work as a team for giving us such a good education. My greatest dream is to be a lawyer."

Erika do Nascimento Silva, 8th series of Basic Education
"I am very happy to be studying in this school because the school treats everyone equally—whether you are paying or on a scholarship. I thank God and the director of the school for giving me the opportunity to study in such a marvelous school as this one. When I grow up, I want to be a lawyer and to help people."

Yeda Costa Monteiro, 6th series of Basic Education
"The importance of the scholarship for me is psychological and human development. Since I was four years old, I have attended this school. I am so happy and content to be part of this family. Here, I learned the value of friendship and respect as the basis of human relations. In this school, I found a special place that gives respect to the student and the student's family. I desire with all my heart to continue here until I finish my studies."

Carlos Torres Fernandes, 6th series of Basic Education
"The scholarship is truly great because it allows me to study in such a good school like Masrour. My parents don't have the financial ability to pay for my schooling. I really like studying here. The teachers are great and I do all I can to get good grades to show I'm grateful for the opportunity to be here. My parents are so proud of me and I don't give them any cause to worry about my schooling. I hope it will be possible for me to continue here."
