Mona’s Mission

Mona Foundation is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting grassroots educational initiatives and raising the status of women and girls worldwide.

Mona Foundation serves its mission through development of human resources, promoting service learning and volunteerism, bridging the digital divide and supporting our adopted projects through financial grants and material resources that these projects need for their everyday operation or for their development plans.

What Differentiates Mona Foundation

Three factors differentiate the Mona Foundation:

  1. We believe in the innate capacity and the inherent right of each individual, regardless of economic status, to be the protagonist of their own development.
  2. We therefore develop deep and long-term partnerships with the projects we support to learn how best to empower communities to implement their own development activities
  3. We give 100% of all designated funds and 97% of contributions to General Fund directly to the projects we support.
-> We are able to do this because our administrative costs are covered by a private fund provided us outside the contributions we receive.

What Success Looks Like

We are currently documenting our learnings in the field on evaluation and assessment.  In principle, however, we measure our effectiveness by the following indicators:

  1. Our actions positively impact the capacity building at the grassroots such that the communities manage and implement their own development activities.  For example, we established a deep partnership with ADCAM in Brazil and watched it grow from an orphanage to a four-year university over a short few years.
  2. The projects we adopt address development activities at increasingly higher levels of complexity and effectiveness year-over-year.  For example, do they have a systematic approach to learning and decision making e.g. Consultation, Action, Reflection to improve Individual and institutional capacity YOY?
  3. Mona Foundation has the internal institutional capacity to systematically support an increasing number of more complex projects more effectively year-over-year.  For example, does Mona Foundation have a strategic growth plan to guide its actions systematically?

Is Mona Foundation a religious organization?

No. We are a 501 (c) (3), tax exempt public organization supporting grassroots educational initiatives that build capacity at the grassroots so people lead themselves in social and economic development of their own communities.

While many of the Mona Foundation volunteers and supporters are Baha’is, many are not.  Regardless, we are all inspired by the example of Mona and by the universal principles of service to humanity and the right of all to receive an education.  Our support extends to all children without regard to religion, gender, nationality, race or economic status.

Ultimately, our purpose is to go beyond the barriers that so sadly divide our communities and prove that people of all backgrounds can work together in the service of our common good.
